Securing German Democracy

In the final six weeks of the election the 2021 German Federal Elections, ActiveFence observed an almost 200% increase in novel misleading trends and narratives in the German ecosystem. In this report, we share the narratives that aimed to: 

• Damage political social solidarity: polarize political opinions, by conditioning users to the notion that right-wing people are repressed by a corrupt liberal elite, and a political judiciary.
• Undermine trust in the media: convince users that the media is biased against the truth and part of a conspiracy against the public, strengthening the hand of information operation.
• Weaken trust in the electoral process: convince the public that the election process is unfair, which can lead to groups refusing to abide by the results of the election, believing a fraud to have occurred.
